Located just steps from central park, Avra Madison is the Greek restaurant from club/restaurant kings Tao Group. The kitchen offers up traditional greek cuisine with an emphasis on fresh seafood. The 207-seat bi-level eatery evokes a sense of the Greek countryside with 8-foot tall lemon trees at the entrance and white-washed stone walls. Two custom wall-mounted sculptures composed of concrete and white rock salt, by artist Fernando Mastrangelo are also found in the main dining room and private dining room downstairs.

The Lobster Club, the third restaurant in the Major Food Group’s three-headed revamp of the former Four Seasons space, is a colorful contrast to the Grill and the Pool. The Polo Bar is Ralph Lauren's first New York City restaurant, although he is not new to the game, having previously established RL in Chicago and Ralph's in Paris. The designer's touch is everywhere in this Midtown haunt for power brokers and bold-faced names. Gorgeous lighting, rich leather, equestrian art, flickering fireplaces and gold sinks in the bathroom bespeak of an aspirational Town & Country lifestyle. This scene-y, big deal import from our friends in London brought with it izakaya-style Japanese from Chef Rainer Becker and Sushi Chef Kazutoshi Endo and it doles out elaborate rolls and signatures like spicy beef tenderloin with sesame, red chili, and sweet soy.

Bad Roman is the new spot from the team behind Quality Branded which run Zou Zou's, Don Angie, and Quality Italian. The food features modern and playful takes on Italian classics. You will find dishes like garlic babka, oysters with cherry pepper mignonette, capellini clams casino, and fillet mignon topped with a cacio e pepe ravioli. The space offers a whimsical take on a Roman feast, complete with animal statues wearing neon collars and actual fountains.
Cafe Chelsea | 218 West 23rd Street

Café Chelsea is the main restaurant at the storied Hotel Chelsea. The French American bistro, is operated by Sunday Hospitality and partner Charles Seich. The menu is very much “classic French bistro,” with steak frites, poulet rôti, an omelette, pâté, and frisée aux lardons, as well a few new-wave twists. A prime example? The maitake au poivre, made with mushrooms instead of steak. There’s also ravioles du Dauphiné, housemade pasta filled with comté, served with a vin jaune and salted butter. For dessert, there’s chocolate soufflé, an almond pear tart, and vanilla cognac ice cream, among a variety of other choices.
Ci Siamo | 440 West 33rd Street Suite #100

The restaurateur Jeff Katz took over the bilevel Del Posto sprawl and turned it into Al Coro. The space is now changing again; the chef Melissa Rodriguez will still be running the kitchen. She has been the constant denominator, now tending an open fire for grilled vegetables, meats and seafood to complement a wine list with more than 1,000 labels.
Cucina Alba | 511 West 18th Street

Cucina Alba, a lux Italian Restaurant located in the shadow of the High Line in a building designed by Thomas Heatherwick. Chef Adam Leonti will be focusing on “vacation Italian,” dishes Americans enjoy while visiting Italy and Cobi Levi, Restaurant Entrepreneur of Prince Street Hospitality Group will run the show.
El Quijote | 226 West 23rd Street

The red neon sign has not changed, nor have the references to Don Quixote. This longtime eatery offers large portions of paella & other traditional Spanish dishes. Without straying far from the traditional, the chefs have come up with a dish that combines boquerones and oil-cured anchovies, a combination of preserved tuna with leeks and tomato, and squid with morcilla sausage. The paella for which the restaurant has long been known is now made mostly with seafood and also rabbit.
Keens | 72 West 36th Street

This circa-1885 Midtown Chophouse remains an iconic destination. Enormous steaks & signature classics are served in a maze of clubby, wood-paneled rooms. Today, Keens is the only survivor of the Herald Square Theatre District. In an age that tears down so much of the past it is comforting to find one landmark which survives.

Marea couldn’t really be found anywhere other than Central Park South. Its urbane clientele ensures the atmosphere remains as sophisticated as ever and the restaurant keeps its side of the deal by providing polished, confident service and a comfortable environment. Fish and shellfish are the stars of the show and Italian is the chosen language. Nothing starts a meal like Crudo followed by homemade pasta. Add in an impressive Eurocentric wine list, and you have all the ingredients for a great meal.

The chef Tadashi Ono, previously at Matsuri, is now at this underground space in the Hotel Chelsea. The restaurant, run by Sunday Hospitality alongside Charles Seich, is named for Teruko Yokoi, an artist who resided at the hotel and whose works are on display. There’s sushi served à la carte, though omakase is an option. From Mr. Ono’s kitchen come smoked and seared kampachi, whole Dover sole karaage, and robata-grilled Wagyu. The restaurant’s back bar was rescued from the Hotel Okura in Tokyo.

Zou Zou’s is a lively and modern Eastern Mediterranean restaurant by chef Madeline Sperling, who spent years working at some of the most notable restaurants throughout NYC, including Gramercy Tavern and The NoMad. Sperling will be joined by Juliana Latif, Together they’ll offer a menu inspired by and celebrating the cuisine and flavors of the Eastern Mediterranean region, bringing in influences from Lebanon, Israel, Turkey, Egypt, Syria, and Jordan.

It’s a delightful European bistro from alums of hot spots like Nomad and Estela, in the former home of Hop Shing in Chinatown.
